Chapters are events of communion and fraternal life. General Chapters are assemblies representing all the members of the Institute. They elect the Superior general and her Assistants. Provincial Chapters represent all the communities of the province. They elect the provincial Councillors.
Provincial Superiors are appointed by the Superior General with her Council after a general consultation of the province concerned. Chapters trace the main lines of Formation of the communities and single out operative choices to be carried out. They are held regularly.

When everything has been done, we feel the need to express our thanks for what the experience has done in us. The give-and-take among the chapter members themselves came out in an explosion of joyous rendering of thanks during the concluding gathering in the chapter hall itself. Now our thanks go to our Sisters who in prayer and daily offering have supported this important Institute event, to all those who in various ways assured us of their interest and to the Communities of Rome, of the Generalate and of Lovere, all of whom have with loving care seen to all our needs.

Our General Chapter is over.
Jesus, the Risen Lord, now wishes us to let everyone share in our joy

that comes from knowing of His passionate love for everyone of us.

We thank all those who have followed this event through our website and, maybe, remembered us in their prayer.

Let us all now have new joy and hope in life, with the blessing of Mary, Mother of the Church and ‘Apostle’ of God’s Love.

8 June 2011

The intense Chapter days suddenly offered us a happy surprise, on 8 May. We took it as a special gift from God, speaking to us through the Successor of St Peter and through artistic beauty.

As we participated at the audience of Pope Benedict XVI, seeing him and having him among us, listening to him together with sisters of other Congregations and so many people coming from all parts of the world, filled us with the joy, the awe and wonder of being church, living Body of Christ, and united in faith under His representative on earth. We were happy and grateful to have his blessing, which we now wish to extend to all those we care for, dear ones who at that moment were in our mind and heart.

For us, the Pope had a particular, gracious greeting:
"I greet you, Sisters of Maria Bambina, and gladly join you in your gratitude to God for the gifts received these days during which you have reflected together on the present and future of your Institute. May Saints Bartolomea Capitanio and Vincenza Gerosa obtain for you the gift of an ever more fruitful and joyful living up to the evangelical counsels".

Mother Annamaria, in the name of all of us, assured him of our loyalty and affection and once again asked from him a blessing on the entire Institute.

In the afternoon, so refreshed in faith and in communion we had the privilege of paying a visit to the Vatican Palace, in particular to 'Redemptoris Mater' Chapel, the Sistine Chapel and the Paoline Chapel. Monsignor Giuseppe Scotti patiently guided us into a good understanding of the artistic and spiritual splendour that they hold. While our eyes feasted on their exquisite beauty, our heart made room for the witnessing to the Faith they represent, and was further enriched by the desire to celebrate beauty in all its forms and everywhere, to-day.

The chapter assembly has been deeply intent on making out,
by listening prayerfully to the Holy Spirit,
the Sisters chosen by God to assist the superior general in the carrying out of her duties.
The Sisters accordingly elected are:

Sr. Apoline Monis, Sr. Maria do Carmo Góes da Costa

(both already served as Assistants in the last sexennium)
Sr. Mary Kuriakose and Sr. Giulia Mauri.

We wish them, and ask for them, the gift of communion in the fullness of love.

Heartfelt thanks to Sr. Cicily Augustine for her service of governance of the Institute over the last twelve years. May God’s blessings be ever with her wherever she goes

The liturgical Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary to Elizabeth ushers in a new stretch of road in the life-story of the Institute. In an atmosphere of profound attentiveness to what the Lord says for the day and of intense invocation of the Holy Spirit, the members of the General Chapter prepared for the election of the new Superior General. The person elected this very day is

Sr. ANNAMARIA VIGANÒ.

Formerly a member of the General Council, she becomes for us today the visible sign of a closely-knit, united Institute and guardian of the founding charism. We assure her of our obedience and loyal co-operation; our prayerful wish is that she may guide the Institute with great wisdom towards a renewed participation in Jesus' passionate love for the men and women of today.

To Mother Piercarla go our affectionate thanks for having expanded the Institute's bounds of chari-ty and for having strengthened all of us in Christian hope. May she continue to bear witness to it among us with gladness and deep peace.

XXVI GENERAL CHAPTER
"Partakers of Jesus' passionate Love for mankind
.
Holiness in service of charity"

In the shadow of the Colonnato of St. Peter's Square, Vatican, participants of the XXVI General Chapter started proceedings on 9 May with an opening prayer. This was a special moment for entering into a living contact with the source of Love and for invoking the Holy Spirit on each one individually and on all together, so that everything may be done in union with Jesus, the lovable Redeemer, for the good of men and women of today.

The assembly, made up of 68 sisters coming from Africa, Asia, America and Europe, represents the whole Institute and expresses the catholicity of the Church.
All prepare to listen to the voice of the Lord through the reports of the Superior general and major Superiors, to hear of His wonders in the prophetic force of Charity at work in the world, and to respond to His appeal for the years ahead.

As individual and group work goes on, in their desire to discern what is pleasing to God, they get to know one another better. They recognize each other as 'sisters', sharing the same vocation-and-mission, with the same eagerness in their hearts: that of promoting human dignity and brotherly love among the people of our times.
